The EF64-1000 is a DC electric locomotive for gradient lines that was introduced in 1980 to replace old electric locomotives on the Takasaki and Joetsu lines.
After the privatization of JNR, the cars belonging to JR Freight underwent renewal work from around 2003, and were given the model's unique color scheme based on white and blue.
Since around 2017, some of the cars have been restored to JNR colors.
