Information
The express train "Naga" first appeared in October 1968 as a daytime express train connecting Osaka and Nishi-Kagoshima, and from March 1975 it was operated as a sleeper express train using the 583 series, and from February 1984 it was operated as a Blue Train using 24 series sleeper cars.
After the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, it was operated by JR Kyushu's 24 series, and was coupled with cars such as the Oha 24 series 300 series "Legato Seat" seat car, the Ohanfu 25 series 2100 (2200) series two-person B-class private sleeping car "Duet", and the Suhane 25 series 2100 series single-person B-class private sleeping car "Solo".
In March 2004, the operating area was shortened to between Shin-Osaka and Kumamoto, and in October 2005, it was coupled with the Akatsuki, which resulted in the shortening of the formation and the withdrawal of the Oha24-300 series "Legato Seat" from service.
Furthermore, the Naha was discontinued as a train in March 2008, along with the Akatsuki, bringing to a close the long history of night trains between Kansai and Kyushu.
