The Kiha 65-611, 1611 (green stripe) and Kiha 65-712, 1712 (yellow stripe) were completed in December of the following year as additional cars for the "Edel Tango" train, a modified Kiha 65 train with a viewing room that was introduced in 1988. As these cars were to be used for additional cars, the design of the front was the same as that of the original car, but the driver's cab was converted to a semi-room and the passenger seat side was converted to a viewing room, and the asymmetrical front window shape and the headlights moved to the front display area gave the cars a unique look. The body color was the same as that of the aforementioned "Edel Tango," and the ivory background color and JR West's corporate color blue stripe were left as they were, with green and yellow stripes in the theme colors being added to each pair of cars. The couplers were also replaced in order to be able to be coupled with the "Edel Tango," which can be coupled with limited express trains. Kiha 65-611 and 1611 are compatible with the "Edel" series other than their own vehicles as well as with express trains, and in addition to heavy passenger service coupled with express trains to the Hokuriku region, they were also mixed with their fellow "Edel Tango" and "Resort & Shupur yellow stripe formations", as well as "Edel Kitakinki" and "Edel Tottori", and continued to be widely used throughout JR West Japan in a variety of formations until October 2010.
