JR 201 Series Chuo-Sobu Line (Local trains)
8 Cars Set
information
The 201 series is a commuter train that was first built in 1979 as JNR's first armature chopper controlled car, with mass production starting in 1981 after its energy-saving effects were proven.
The 201 series was introduced to the Chuo and Sobu lines in 1982 to replace the 101 series.
The 201 series introduced to the line was designed to be split into 4 + 6 car configurations, with 19 units eventually deployed.
In its later years, like the Chuo line, modifications were made to close the coupling side windows by installing anti-fall sails and to install skirts on both leading cars.
In 2001, with the introduction of the successors 209-500 series and E231 series, the trains were transferred to other lines, ending their service on the Chuo and Sobu lines.
