The 0 series was the first commercial Shinkansen train, introduced in 1964.
The 1000 series was a group that replaced the large windows covering two rows of seats with small windows covering only one row of seats, and was introduced to replace cars that were mixed in with trains from the time the line opened, but there were also trains that were all 1000 series.
The 1000 series, which appeared in 1976 and had smaller side windows, was added to replace earlier cars that were mixed in with trains, so some cars still had large windows within the trains, and "Hikari" trains with dining cars attached were called NH trains.
