The Kilo 59 series "Resort Saloon Festa" was remodeled from Kiha 58 and Kiha 28 in 1988 as a joyful train for JR West Hiroshima branch. It is a fixed 3-car formation, with the Kilo 59s at both ends serving as passenger rooms with reclining seats, and the front section being a high-decker observation room. The middle car has a lounge. The boarding and alighting doors are different on the sea side and the mountain side, with four folding doors on the sea side and two sliding doors on the mountain side throughout the formation. The most distinctive feature of the "Festa" is its front, which resembles a face reminiscent of a fish or amphibian, with a silver lip at the bottom of the large curved window. The lower lip can be moved by air pressure, and LED displays can appear from inside, and audio such as self-introductions can be played from speakers on both sides. The train was loved by many fans, but it was retired in 2001 due to aging.
