At the end of the JNR era, many freight cars were abolished, leaving many surplus freight cars. These were converted into the TR90000 trolley train. Originally an open-top car for transporting wood chips, the structure was utilized to provide a tent-like roof and simple chairs and desks, creating a vehicle that allows passengers to experience the wild ride and the flow of the wind. The three cars, TR91388, TR91402, and TR91818, appeared as tourist trolley trains on the Etsumi-Nan Line in 1985. In 1986, when the line was transferred to the third sector, they moved to the Iida Line and operated as the "Trolley Family" pulled by EF58 and ED18, but in 1996 they were retired due to their aging, and their roles were handed over to their successors, the Ohafu 17.
