The Kiha 187-500 series is a JR West diesel express train that was introduced in 2003.
It was introduced as the "Super Inaba" to replace the Kiha 181 series "Inaba" that previously ran between Okayama and Tottori.
The "Super Inaba" sometimes runs on the Chizu Express Line, and as the window arrangement is different from the conventional Kiha 187 series due to safety equipment, it was given the new 500 series.
In later years, a wiper cover was added to the top of the front through door window.
