The 205 series is a commuter train that first appeared on the Chuo and Sobu lines in 1989, with two sets of trains initially introduced.
At their peak, four sets of trains were in service due to transfers from other lines, and later skirts were installed.
The next generation of trains, the 209-500 series and the E231-0 series, were introduced in 1998 and 2000, respectively, and the 205 series was withdrawn from the line by 2001 and transferred to other lines.
