This is a representative two-axle covered freight car, on par with the WAM80000 and WARA1, which appeared in 1953 with the WAM23000 series' single-stage link structure improved to a two-stage link.
Some pre-war WAM23000 series cars had no ribs on the side doors, and even after they were converted to WAM90000 series, the ribless doors remained.
