The North Rainbow Express is a resort train manufactured in 1992 to replace the Alpha Continental Express, and its nickname was determined through a public contest. The guest rooms are basically built on stilts, with an emphasis on visibility. The theme colors are lavender, blue, light green, orange, and pink in order of organization, giving it a colorful appearance. Measures had been taken to pass through the Seikan Tunnel, and it was possible to enter Honshu by pulling a locomotive. When it first appeared, it temporarily started operating as a 3-car train, but in December 1992, Kiha 182-5251 and the double-decker Kisaha 182-5201 were added, making it a 5-car train, which was temporarily used. The paint of 3 cars has been changed. Due to aging, operation will end in the spring of 2023.
