The EF81 300 series, developed for the Kanmon Tunnel connecting Honshu and Kyushu, features a stainless steel body with a unique corrugated exterior. Of these, Units 301 and 302 were painted rose pink (red No. 13), the same color as other general cars, when they were transferred from the Moji engine depot to the Uchigo engine depot due to the timetable revision in October 1978. It moved its running line to the Joban Line and saw a wide range of activity, including towing the sleeper limited express ``Yuzuru,'' general passenger trains, and freight trains. After that, it returned to the Moji engine depot and remained active until 2014 with its rose pink (red No. 13) paint job.

The model will be commercialized after 2010 with an inspection window on the side of the cab.
