The DD51 type that was used by JR Hokkaido was changed to a blue color with a gold star mark in conjunction with the start of operation of the sleeper express ``Hokutosei''.
It was mainly used to tow passenger trains such as the Hokutosei, but was retired in 2016 due to the discontinuation of the sleeper express Cassiopeia and the express Hamanasu.
