information
The Hoki 4200 is a 4-axle bogie type 30-ton open hopper vehicle manufactured from 1959 to 1967 for transporting limestone. The basic structure is similar to coal transport wagons of the same period, with an opening/closing door at the bottom of the side for unloading, but the overall height is kept low due to the specific gravity of the cargo. Initially, it was painted all black, but later a yellow band was added to indicate a maximum speed limit of 65km/h.
The Hoki 4200 owned by Okutama Kogyo Co., Ltd. was modified in 1976 by installing a cover on the top to prevent cargo from scattering in urban areas. As a result, the model name was changed to HOKI 34200 and the load was reduced to 28t. The Hoki 34200 was seen being towed by electric locomotives such as the ED16 and EF64-1000 on the Ome Line and Nambu Line, making it a famous sight, but by 1994 it had been scrapped.
