[About the Tadami Line]
The Tadami Line is a railway line with a total length of 135.2 km that connects Aizuwakamatsu Station in Fukushima Prefecture to Koide Station in Niigata Prefecture.
It was known as one of the most scenic and unexplored routes in Japan, but due to the damage caused by the heavy rains in Niigata and Fukushima in 2011, the section between Koide and Aizusakashita was interrupted.
After that, a part of the section was restored, and operation resumed as a route connecting Aizuwakamatsu - Aizukawaguchi and Tadami - Koide, and on October 1, 2022, after 11 years, the section was suspended. The section between Aizukawaguchi and Tadami, which had been there, has been restored and all lines have resumed operation.
-The Kiha 40 series started operation on the Tadami Line around 1980 and was active for nearly 40 years until it was retired in 2020.

Type Kiha 40 No. 581 was placed in the Koriyama locomotive depot at the time in 1980, and began to be active on the routes in the Koriyama area, including the Tadami Line.
In the 1990s, the Kiha 110 series appeared, and while the Kiha 40 series in the Koriyama area was replaced and transferred to other areas, the same car remained active on the Tadami Line.
Of the Kiha 40 series that have been active on the Tadami Line since around 2015, the non-air-conditioned vehicles have been replaced with similar ones that have been remodeled to be air-conditioned, and the 581 was retired in 2016.

Type Kiha 48 No. 551 was placed in the Koriyama locomotive depot at the time in 1981, and started to be active on the routes in the Koriyama area including the Tadami Line.
Since around 2008, the other Kiha 48 series that has been active on the Tadami Line has been converted to Resort Minori and replaced with the Kiha 40 series that moved from other areas. bottom.
