The DE10 type appeared in 1966 as a general-purpose diesel locomotive used for shunting branch lines and freight cars.
Of the DE10 series owned by JR East, the vehicle that is active mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area has a change in appearance due to the addition of a door to the front part of the bonnet on the 2 end side due to the installation of ATS-P.
In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the DE10 type was placed at the Utsunomiya driving station and the Takasaki train center, but in 2017 all cars were changed to the Takasaki car center placement.
