The EF80 is an AC / DC electric locomotive that appeared for the Joban Line from 1962 to 1967, and adopts a one-car, one-motor system as a countermeasure against weight increase unique to AC / DC machines.
Of the 1st to 50th units called the primary type, the 1st to 30th prototypes are for both passenger and cargo use, equipped with an EG (electric heating generator), and limited express trains for Series 20 and Series 24 "Yuzuru" etc. Was the key to success.
