Information
A total of 82 EH500s were manufactured. They are two-car, eight-axle AC/DC electric locomotives used for freight trains between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Tohoku, as well as for pulling freight trains in the Kanmon Tunnel section. The shape of the locomotives changes depending on the time of manufacture.
Due to the driver assistance system introduced in 2008, the removal of GPS antennas on the roofs is currently underway. In addition, the removal of the JRF markings that had been displayed on the sides of locomotives owned by JR Freight has been underway since around 2017.
