The 80 series train appeared as a long distance urgent requirement for Tokaido Main Line in 1950. At that time it was dressed in a fresh green and orange paint color, and the following year's extra cars adopted a splendid style of the front two windows. It is called "Shonan color" from "Shonan train" which is the nickname of the 80 series, and has given great influence to the later railroad car. The 300 series is a particularly popular car with a smart car body completed in the final form of the whole gold car group.In around 1978, the 300 series was intensively introduced to the Toyohashi organ area of Iida line, and it was active until 1983 (1983).
