●The 12-series passenger cars were manufactured from 1969 to 1978 and are express-type seat passenger cars capable of a maximum speed of 110km/h. They are equipped with air conditioning powered by a diesel generator under the floor, which is comparable to the electric trains and diesel railcars of the time, and became the basis for the new passenger cars that appeared later, the 14-series and later. Initially, they were operated as group and special trains and for transporting passengers to the Osaka Expo, and later as regular express trains, and were active all over the country except Hokkaido.
