Information
The ED75 type is an AC electric locomotive that appeared in 1963.
The early vehicles, from No. 3 to No. 49, are characterized by their appearance of a roofless body with a rounded hem skirt.
They were mainly deployed at Uchigo Locomotive Depot and Morioka Locomotive Depot, and were used to pull local trains and freight trains on the Tohoku Main Line and Joban Line, as well as the ED75 type at Morioka Locomotive Depot, which was also used extensively as a helper locomotive for crossing the difficult Jusanbongi Pass between Hachinohe and Morioka.
When they were introduced, they were equipped with defrosters, but the vehicles at Morioka Locomotive Depot were soon replaced with heated glass and removed.
The early model vehicles without roofs were not inherited by JR companies and all were retired by February 1987.
