Information
The ED76 0 series is an AC electric locomotive of Japan National Railways that was born in 1965.It is based on the famous AC locomotive ED75, but the car body length has been increased to accommodate a steam generator (commonly known as SG) for heating passenger cars. In order to cope with the increased weight of the SG due to its water and fuel loading, a non-powered intermediate bogie has been installed, and although it is a D-type, it has a large body similar to that of an F-type machine. By adjusting the air spring pressure of the intermediate bogie, it is possible to enter lines with lower railway standards. 94 cars of the 0 series were used as special machines for Kyushu, and with the extension of electrification, they were used for freight trains and ordinary passenger trains. It was used all over Kyushu, from towing the Blue Train. The ED76 0 late model, a Kyushu AC electric locomotive used for freight transportation, is commercialized with JR freight specifications.
Since 1995, due to renewal work, white bands have been added to the sides, the passenger compartment door has been replaced with a stainless steel one, and some vehicles have unpainted silver doors. It also features a body without a side inspection lid, and a chimney and air conditioning plate that are missing due to the removal of the SG.

◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
